Un poco tarde pero decidí compartirles lo que vi en Coachella este año. A mi me tocó ir el segundo fin y la verdad estaba un poco escéptica sobre si sería tan divertido como el primer fin o no.

Para empezar, mis amigos y yo decidimos acampar, pues la mayoría iban a Coachella por primera vez y querían vivirlo al máximo. Acampar tiene sus pros y sus contras, pues por un lado tienes el festival literalmente caminando y no tienes que preocuparte por quién manejará de regreso y por el otro lado el calor hace que te despiertes a las 7 am así estés deshecho.

La comida del lugar es el paraíso para cualquiera que guste de comida chatarra. Malteadas de crema de cacahuate con chocolate, papas fritas con aderezo de ajo y cangrejo rallado, pizza, corn dogs... Definitivamente el lugar indicado para el más antojadizo. La cerveza era Heineken y aunque un poco cara (9 dls el vaso), el calor y el ambiente obligaban a tomar al menos 4 de esos vasitos al día (al menos eh!).

En cuanto a las bandas les puedo decir que los headliners aunque hicieron un buen acto, no dieron el ancho como para ser headliners. Lo digo porque me tocó ir en 2010, cuando Gorillaz cerró el festival y de verdad que sentías la piel chinita. Un grupo que prendió muchísimo a pesar de ser de los primeros en tocar fue 3Ball Mty, que traían toda la fiesta con ellos. Jamie xx también prendió muchísimo, Café Tacvba hizo bailar a todo mundo y James Blake y su voz invocaron a una gran audiencia. Grimes estuvo increíble y prendió hasta a un amigo que la odia porque según él "canta como japonesa loca".

Dos grupos que me sorprendieron mucho y que nunca había escuchado, están ya dentro de mi lista de música para bajar. Uno de ellos C2C, conformado por 4 djs scratchers franceses me impresionaron, pues traen un show de audiovisuales muy padre, además de que se van moviendo de tornamesa para ponerle más intensidad al show. El otro no era banda sino un dj llamado Pretty Lights, que como bien dice su nombre, traía un show con excelente música (una especie de trip hop-dubstep con electrónica) y "luces bonitas".

Apesar de que Alt-J no traía show, tocaron sus canciones de una forma bastante limpia. Beach House estuvo bien, sin embargo había momentos en que hubiera querido un show un poco más producido que contrastara con esa calma característica de sus canciones.

Por opinión pública, el mejor show de todo Coachella estuvo a cargo de How to Destroy Angels, que tenían una escenografía que consistía en telas vaporosas colgadas por las que dependiendo de la iluminación, se podía ver el grupo tocando desde atrás y de su música ni se diga, impecable. Al menos eso escuché de mis amigos, pues yo no pude verlo (me quedé dormida caray).

A decir verdad fue un año bueno pero en mi opinión han habido line ups mucho más interesantes, esperemos que el próximo año se arme uno mejor. Les dejo unas fotos (tomadas desde mi teléfono así que la calidad no está garantizada). Enjoy!

A little late but I decided to share what I saw at Coachella this year. I got the chance to go the second weekend and the truth is I was a little skeptical about whether it would be as fun as the first one or not.

My friends and I decided to camp, as for most of them it was their first Coachella and wanted to live it to the fullest. Camping has its pros and cons, because on one hand you literally walk to the festival and don't have to worry about who will be the assigned driver onthe way back to the hotel and on the other hand the heat causes you to wake up at 7 am even when you are tired as hell.

The food on site is paradise for anyone who likes junk food: chocolate- peanut butter milkshakes (called booty shakes lol), french fries with garlic dressing and shredded crab, pizza, corn dogs ... Definitely the place for the food craving souls. The beer was sponsored by Heineken and though pricey (9 dls), the heat and the atmosphere forced to drink at least 4 of these cups a day (at least!).

As for the bands I can say that the headliners (although they did a good deed), didn't give the width to be headliners. I say this because I had the chance to go in 2010, when Gorillaz closed the festival and I actually felt goosebumps. One group that was so much fun despite being the first to play was 3Ball Mty, they sure did know how to make people dance their asses off. Jamie xx was great too, Café Tacuba made everybody have a good time and James Blake and his voice invoked a large audience. Grimes was amazing and made my friend (who hates her because he said "she sings like a crazy Japanese") dance and even sing along to her songs.

Two bands that surprised me a lot and I had never heard of, and now are part of my music list m to download were C2C (consisting of four French scratcher djs) impressed me because they had really cool visuals, and their ability to switch places while scratching was awesome. The other one was not a band itself but a dj called Pretty Lights, which as its name suggests, he had a show with excellent music (sort of trip hop, dubstep electronic) and "pretty lights".

Eventhough Alt-J did not bring much of a show, they played their songs in a rather clean way. Beach House was good too, however there were times when I wanted the show to be a little more produced (in matters of visuals) to contrast with that calm characteristic of their songs.

To my inclination, the best show of all Coachella was led by How to Destroy Angels, who had a set that consisted of hanging gauzy fabrics for which depending on the lighting, you could see the band playing from behind and as for their music, the sound was impeccable.

It was a good year but in my opinion there have been much more interesting line ups, hopefully next year a better one is armed. Here are some pics (taken from my phone so quality is not guaranteed). Enjoy!
