Si hay algo que me venía a la mente cuando pensaba en los Creepers era "nunca los usaría". Hoy en día son vistos en pasarelas de firmas conocidas como Chanel (Ooh La La!) y blogs de moda. Desde hace unos meses me puse a investigar un poco acerca de ellos porque no tenía idea de dónde habían surgido tales zapatos (que parecen salidos del vestuario de Herman Munster) y por qué hoy en día tienen tanto éxito.
Pues estos zapatos fueron creados en 1949 por George Cox y eran usados por los soldados británicos para soportar el calor y frío extremos. Después los usan los Teddy Boys, jóvenes bien acomodados (un tanto rebeldes sin causa) junto con pantalones y sacos ajustados.
Los Creepers volvieron a ganar popularidad en los 70s cuando Malcolm McLaren, manager de los Sex Pistols los comenzó a vender en su tienda Let It Rock y, gracias a que se asoció con la diseñadora de modas Vivienne Westwood, éstos zapatos ganaron aún más popularidad.
No sólo están los Creepers de triple suela, también hay Creepers de suela baja e incluso Creeper sneakers. ¿Qué opinan? ¿Los usarían?
If there is something that went through my mind when I thought of the Creepers was "I would never wear them". Nowadays they are seen on high fashion runways such as Chanel (Ooh La La!) and fashion blogs. A few months ago I started searching a little bit more about them because I didn´t have any idea of where could such shoes (that look like they were Herman Munster´s ) come from and why are they so succesful in the fashion world.
Well, these shoes were created in 1949 by George Cox and they were first used by the british soldiers to help them through the extreme cold and hot. Later on they were used by the Teddy Boys, young, wealthy, rebel boys that matched them with tight jeans and jackets.
Creepers became popular again in the 70s, when Malcolm McLaren (Sex Pistols manager) started selling them in his store Let it Rock. These shoes were even more popular since he associated with fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.
Not only there are the triple sole Creepers, but the low sole or even the Creeper Sneakers. What do you think? Would you wear them?
